Although a star and primarily known in the UK, Eddie Izzard is making a splash lately in the US as well. Eddie Izzard's first video launched in the US, "Dress to Kill" was released on DVD in 2002. Tony nominee for "Best Leading Actor in a Play" in 2003, Izzard, wowed his US fans in Peter Nichols' "A Day in the Death of Joe Egg". Named the greatest British stand-up comedian of this century by the London Sunday Times, Eddie Izzard was born 1963 in Adem, Yemen. Eddie's family moved to Bangor, Northern Ireland when he was five years old. After his mother died, Izzard was sent off to boarding school when he was only six. Eddie Izzard began taking part in skits and school plays when he was seven, and discovered he loved being on performing live on stage. After writing and acting in comedies at Sheffield University, he left school and moved to London to pursue his career of choice. Within three years, Eddie Izzard was acting at the London Club circuit and performing in shows in the West End. Performing in a dress and identifying himself as a transvestite, his one man-woman shows were the talk of the town. In the '90s Eddie toured the US to sell-out crowds. He landed various movie roles and earned Emmy nominations as well.
